bias toward action

bias toward action

I've read somewhere that to attain good results in any learning related pursuit it is important to focus on the sense that you studied this much rather than on a sense of achievement in terms of progress.

We often want to use a sense of achievement as a main yardstick to measure our progress. But this can actually lead to disappointment because it's very hard to gain a sense of achievement from a short-term effort e.g. half an hour of language study. Asking yourself what you've achieved on a daily basis can be quite depressing as a matter of fact.

When you study a foreign language for 30 minutes, you are not likely to feel a lot of tangible progress. Tangible results appear in the long run - months and years, and they materialize only when daily efforts are maintained with diligence.

So rather than focusing on a sense of achievement, what you want to focus on is the sense that you studied this or that much. For instance, rather than thinking, "Oh, I've achieved this," you should tell yourself, "Oh, I was able to study for a half hour! I wasn't distracted at all during that time. That's really something!"

Our obsession with short-term progress sometimes gets in the way of the attainment of our long-term goals as we tend to be discouraged and demoralized by the lack of perceptible immediate results. So in the near term, don't think about a sense of achievement. Instead, focus on your study for 30 minutes and be ecstatic about it if you were able to immerse yourself in it. When we repeat this process - really living in the moment, we are more likely to achieve our long-term goals. What do you think?

Have a nice day!

It's your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude.

It's your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude.

It's your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude.

That's how I keep pushing.

Keep on pushing, fellow learners.

Someone asked Sir Isaac Newton,

重力の法則は the theory of gravity

答え

How did you discover the theory of gravity?

」

You would've...

You would've discovered it too if that's all you had thought about everyday.

You would've discovered it too if that's all you had thought about everyday.

How did you discover the theory of gravity?

You would've discovered it too if that's all you had thought about everyday.

How did you discover the theory of gravity?

You would've discovered it too if that's all you had thought about everyday.

How did you discover the theory of gravity?

You would've discovered it too if that's all you had thought about everyday.

That's all for now. Have a good day!

Exquisite!

"What a shot! Simply exquisite!"

Thank you for your gripping commentary.

Incredible tennis that was.

Exquisite (shot)!

Thank you for your gripping commentary.

Okay, then, have a good day!
